You Thinks Me Stupid

This tops the long list of "I'll see you in Hell first":

China is about to emerge as the world's leading emitter of greenhouse gases, a position the United States has held since 1890. Now is the time for China to take the lead in finding a way to reduce global emissions, which the United States has thus far failed to do.
What does the Washington Post suggest?

1. It should start by imposing a sizable tax on the carbon content of its fossil fuel consumption and by heading an effort among other major trading countries to do the same.

2. The alternative to a global carbon tax is to continue building on the Kyoto Protocol, which the world's industrialized countries, minus the United States and Australia, have ratified.
Two excellent ways to bankrupt a growing economy. The US did the math on this one and determined it would let New Zealand lead the way. That worked well.
China is anxious to lead in many areas, but costly economy deflaters is not a hot area right now. It is reasonable to pressure China to take steps to clean up its environment, which as I have complained, is a cesspool. It is not reasonable to expect China to lead the world in "green" manufacturing.

Instead of wasting trees printing articles that advocate positions that will NEVER be considered, why don't Assistant Professor Maximilian Auffhammer from UC Berkeley and Professor Richard Carson from UC San Diego devise a plan that is manageable. Start with some easy low cost options and technology that won't cause businesses to run straight to India and Vietnam and then provide a ten year road map including more costly alternatives. It may be more difficult to market to the WaPost, but it is far more likely to produce positive results.
