Live Earth in Shanghai

Pretty exciting. On July 7, 2007, Shanghai will host an array of world renowned talent on the stairs of the Pearl TV Tower in honor of Live Earth Day or some such silliness. Musical guests include Anthony Chan, Evonne, Huang Xiao Ming, Joey Yung, Solere, Winnie Shin, 12 Girls Band and huh? Sara Brightman.

Seven Asian acts and Andrew Lloyd Weber's ex-wife? I guess that'll be a sell out. How did Shanghai get so lucky when the US could only snag notable has-beens like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Madonna, Dave Matthews, Police, Beastie Boys and John Mayer?

And what exactly is Algore peddling? His shameless website provides helpful tips on how "you too" can help save the environment by buying a hybrid, using bio diesel fuel or straight vegetable oil, carpooling, walking or just plain going without a car. Then there is a picture of Algore filling up his Prius with bio diesel fuel and Tipper locking her bike onto the bike rack....

Oh, wait. That wasn't the Gores.

Doom and Gloom to scare the kiddies into coming is a must: "Scientists are contemplating last ditch efforts to slow global warming." Weren't they saying that in the 70's?

Anyway, what kind of brass ones does it take for people who drive Escalades (Madonna), Land Rovers (Mayer - or was that Jess' car), Lincolns (Algore)and live in mansions that use more electricity than many businesses to lecture ANYONE on anything.

"While Gore relaxes in his posh pool house and heated pool, you should be taking shorter and colder showers, and hanging your laundry outside to dry. As Gore jets around the world in first-class comfort to hob-nob with society’s elites about his self-declared “moral imperative”, you should travel less and bike to work. You should use less electricity while Al and his wife, Tipper, use 20 times the national average. Now that’s a real carbon offset.

“Are you ready to change the way you live?” Gore literally meant you – and only you. "

Amen. In the meantime, load up the Hummer and go listen to Huang Xiao Ming at the Pearl TV Tower. Should be a night to remember.
